Marushin Koi Farm

Perched atop the storied village of Yamakoshimushigame in Niigata Prefecture, Marushin Koi Farm, founded in 1968 and led today by Mitsuhiro Tanaka.. Its elevated setting in Niigata’s koi cradle adds a layer of majesty to every fish bred here.

Marushin Koi Farm is celebrated for its standout interpretations of Showa varietals:

  • Doitsu Showa and Ginrin Showa
  • Standard Showa
  • Ginrin Budogoromo and Budogoromo
  • Tamasaba — Marushin holds a champion breeder reputation for this metallic, heavy-bodied goldfish.

The owner, Mitsuhiro Tanaka, consistently pushes for the development of koi with strong bodies and rich sumi (black pigment).

Marushin’s koi are the result of unwavering workmanship and thoughtful evolution. Beyond traditional styles, the farm harnesses the power of natural highland water, the dynamics of seasonal change, and careful breeding to create koi that are not just aesthetically striking but robust and lively.
