Suda Koi Farm

Located in Ojiya City, Niigata Prefecture – one of the most historic regions in Japan for koi breeding – Suda Koi Farm is internationally recognised as a leading specialist in Hikarimono (metallic koi varieties). The farm is run by Mr. Suda, a breeder whose name has become synonymous with lustre, refinement, and excellence in koi quality.

While many Niigata breeders concentrate on Gosanke (Kohaku, Sanke, Showa), Suda Koi Farm has carved its reputation through its world-class metallic koi. Over the years, Mr. Suda has perfected bloodlines that are admired for their clarity, brilliance, and strength. His signature varieties include:

• Platinum Ogon (Purachina Ogon): Pure, glowing white koi that radiate elegance.
• Yamabuki Ogon: Golden metallic koi with deep, uniform colouration and impressive size potential.
• Doitsu Hariwake: Doitsu-scaled koi with bright metallic white skin and striking yellow or orange patterns.
• Kikusui: A stunning doitsu variety with shining platinum skin and flowing red/orange patterns.
• Other Hikarimono: Including Kujaku and Kin Matsuba, each raised with the same attention to body shape and lustre.

The farm operates across a series of carefully managed mud ponds and greenhouses, allowing koi to be raised naturally in spring and summer, then protected and refined through winter. The Niigata environment – cold winters and pure mountain water – contributes to the strong growth and vivid metallic sheen that define Suda’s koi.
